Mérite Jeunesse (The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award)
Mérite Jeunesse (Years 9-13)
The Mérite Jeunesse is part of The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, which is the world’s leading youth achievement award, bringing together practical experiences and equipping young people for life.
The Award is based on long‑term participation in the components physical activity, skill and volunteering. There is a fourth section which is often the highlight of the Award – the Expedition. At Bronze level (aged 14 and up), students complete a two day, one night expedition. At Silver level (aged 15 and up), it is three days and two nights and at Gold level (aged 16 and up), it is four days and three nights as well as a residential project to be completed. Each level of the Award requires two expeditions, a practice and a qualifying. These take place in increasingly remote locations ranging from the Mullerthal to the Swiss Alps. The Award allows students to develop key skills of organisation, teamwork, leadership and time management. The Mérite Jeunesse is for Year 9 and above (Students must be 14 years old by 1st October 2017 for the Bronze Award).
