Festive activities started early with a delicious Thanksgiving lunch, closely followed by an Advent themed sale after the walking group in early December. The ever-popular Gingerbread house decorating workshop followed taking total fundraising for the new classroom block at Lauren Patterson's Memorial school to a fantastic 1660 euros. We are very grateful to Awesome Cause Foundation who will match this fundraising! The roof, windows and doors will be put on over the Christmas holidays and the children will be able to use the classrooms when the school year starts in late January.
Many of the children walk some distance to school without having breakfast so Friends of St George's were inspired to do some extra fundraising to provide them with hot lunches. Many parents can't afford lunch and it leads the children to fall asleep at their desks or play truant to scavenge for food. Karen baked 780 mince pies and a group of Friends booked a table to sell things at the secondary Christmas Fayre to fundraise for hot lunches. In total we raised just over 800 euros which is enough for all the children to have a hot lunch for 15 days - a good incentive to the children to come to school and learn in the first weeks of the new term when attendance is often poor.
Thank you so much to everyone who supported the fundraising and special thanks to all those who helped: Mary, Lisa, Tiziana, Jen, Zoe, Karen, Jasmina, Kat, Clare and Helen!
