On Friday 1st June, St George’s International School celebrated the graduation of 23 students of 13 different nationalities. The ceremony was held in the School’s Auditorium, in a formal and friendly fashion allowing graduates, their parents and their teachers to reminisce on their experiences at St George’s.
Mr Chris Cheesman, the Chairman of the Board of Governors opened the ceremony by giving the students invaluable advice: ‘Believe in yourself, you have already got this far and you deserve it. Believe it because you are going places and you can change the world if you want to. You have done really well this year. Well done and make the most if it!’
The graduates in turn gave thanks to their teachers, ‘It is safe to say that it was a little easier to get up every morning for school, because it was like leaving one family and joining another.’
‘As you can tell this day represents a very bitter sweet end, we are looking forward to the next chapter in our lives but this also means we have to say good bye to all our teachers who have invested so much time and energy to our wellbeing and to our success. We will be forever grateful to St George’s for making us the people we are today.’
The Head boy and Head girl also expressed their thanks to their teachers and also their appreciation to their classmates. ‘I am sure I speak for all of us here when I say we have made friends for life’.
St George’s Year 13 students hope to be taking up places at the following universities; Aberystwyth University, University of the Arts London, University of Bath, UCL, University of Cambridge, Durham University, University of Oxford, University of St Andrews, University of Liverpool and Manchester University to name just a few.
St George’s Alumni association will keep the graduates well-informed of developments and progress at the School and they will be invited back to the School to a number of events in the coming years.
