The team at Suubi Community Projects Uganda would like to thank inspirational St George's International School student Sophie-Jaya for her generosity. Instead of receiving Birthday gifts for her 9th Birthday, she asked friends and family to make donations so that some children at the Lauren Patterson Memorial School could have new uniforms. She made a fundraising video on You Caring. https://www.youcaring.com/subbikidsinuganda-1036873
An incredible 2210 US dollars was raised! We know that Sophie-Jaya is very happy and excited and thankful to all who supported her. All 350 children will receive a brand new uniform in time for the new school year starting on 29th January. Currently, less than half the children have uniforms and many can't afford shoes even though they walk considerable distances to school. Sophie-Jaya is delighted because enough funds were raised to buy shoes for some of the children and this inspired an extra donation so that every child will now receive new shoes with their new uniform.
We know that Sophie-Jaya is inspired by Blessed Mother Teresa's saying that “Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.” We would like to share another one of Blessed Mother Teresa's sayings with Sophie-Jaya "I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples.” Each new uniform and pair of shoes is like a ripple of hope and love from Sophie-Jaya and all who donated and will motivate the children to attend school despite the hardships they face.
