Year 12 BTEC performing Arts Trip
Posted 10/10/2017 16:45

Mrs Williams took Year 12 BTEC performing Arts students to the Grand Theatre in Luxembourg where they were taken on an extensive backstage tour which allowed them to see the costume department, the carpentry workshop, the metal workshop and they were even brave enough to walk on the grid which stands a dizzying 23 metres above the stage.

The tour was followed by talks and demonstrations in sound engineering, lighting design, hydraulic and manual pulleys and counterweights. Students were able to ride on the moving parts of the stage which lifted them seven metres in the air and then plummeted them seven metres underground, under the control of one of the head technicians from the theatre. They learned that although it can be fun, the theatre can be a very dangerous and risky place which requires hard work from every member of the team;  from box office staff, to technicians to performers.
