The Silver practice expedition for Merite Jeunesse took place from Saturday 12 to Monday 14 September. After starting in Echternach, students hiked to Beaufort, then onto Diekirch then finished near Vianden. The first campsite was right next to the Mullerthal forest, whilst the second campsite was by the Sure river. The two groups learnt a lot about navigation, camping and teamwork along the way. The heat was a challenge – different to the rain on previous expeditions.
The Gold assessed expedition took place from Friday 18 to Monday 21 September. The two groups hiked from Liefrange to Fuussekaul, then to Bourscheid Millen, then to Kautenbach then finished in Eschweiler. They demonstrated their skills in navigation, camping, teamwork and cooking during these 4 days on the trail whilst enjoying the lovely weather and beautiful scenery in Luxembourg. The students experienced first hand the hills of Luxembourg as well as a variety in the quality of hiking trails. They were happy to enjoy 4 days of sunshine, well deserved after the rain during their practice expedition.
The Merite Jeunesse club is planning to run again this academic year. Anyone who is interested should respond to the school's Clubs Secretary when the club is advertised as being open for new subscriptions (which will be in October).
