St George's News
Find out what's happening at St George's!
There’s liking radio and then there’s … Radio Ara’s breakfast show host Sam Steen
From 6:00am on Thursday 17th up until a bleary-eyed 3:00pm on Friday 18th September, Sam will be broadcasting live non-stop. He’s aiming to draw attention to the #SupportRadioARA campaign, sparked due to community media being left out of recent government funding plans in the wake of the covid-crisis and its crushing impact on media industry revenues. You can read more in this report by Chronicle. Several St George's Media students are helping to develop ideas for the campaign.
Joining Sam along the way will be special guests Georgia (Year 11 Media student) on Thursday at 2:30pm plus A-Level Media students Tristan and Emma at 1:30pm on Friday, reflecting on their own experiences producing and broadcasting radio shows.
If you’re unfamiliar with their work, the GCSE and A-Level Media students produce a monthly hour-long show for Radio Ara, The B122 Show, broadcast on the 4th Wednesday of every month from 4-5pm. Georgia broadcast the August episode live from the studio for the first time, with Tristan also having gained experience of live broadcasting through a range of morning shows he covered for presenters enjoying a well-earned break! He’ll be back on air next Wednesday (the 23rd) for September’s B122 Show, but in the meantime you can catch previous episodes, as well as the full 11-episode PassTheMic, a global award winning pop-up show by the Year 11 students, through Ara’s podcast platform: http://podcast.ara.lu/blog/category/graffiti/st-georges/
You can hear Georgia, Tristan and more Media students on air during Sam’s Radio Ara marathon through 102.9/105.2 FM and live streaming at ara.lu.
