Year 13 Maths students have been using the latest software to solve some challenging problems. The students have been using a combination of ‘traditional’ problem solving methods (pencil and paper) and technological techniques. The graph drawing program on their ipads enabled them to not only solve the problems more quickly, but also gave them a greater appreciation of the mathematics involved in their solution. They then researched how the software can be applied to the real world and found some interesting results including insight into how film animations are created and how mountainous landscapes can be modelled mathematically.
