Primary students dressed up as their favourite book character to finish off a very successful book week. The Primary students welcomed two extremely talented authors; Valerie Bloom and Trish Cooke.

Valerie Bloom is a performance poet, originally from Jamaica. Her published work includes Hot Like Fire which is a Power of Reading recommended text and the award winning picture book Fruits – a Caribbean Counting Poem (this one went down very well with the Year 1 to 6 students!)Valerie was awarded an MBE for her services to poetry in 2008. Her first ever published novel was Surprising Joy (2003) followed by The Tribe, which was published by Macmillan Children's Books in 2007.

Trish Cooke from West Yorkshire comes from a big family of six sisters and three brothers eight nephews, six nieces, three great-nieces and one great-nephew, all of whom provide her with the inspiration for her picture books. Trish has won many awards for her picture books, including the Smarties Book Prize and the Kurt Maschler Award. Trish’s books for students in Early Years Foundation and year 1 include ‘So Much!’, ‘Full, full, full of Love’, ‘Look Back’ and When I grow Bigger’.
