Students learn about combustion

  • Secondary News

Year 8 students have been learning about combustion and oxidation reactions during science lessons. They observed what happens when a mixture of alcohol vapour and oxygen is ignited inside a large plastic bottle. The rapid combustion produces blue and yellow flames, and a loud ‘whoosh’ sound.

Students identified the reactants and products of the reaction, and used their knowledge of the fire triangle to explain the resources required to keep a fire burning.
