Students blitz maths comp

  • Secondary News

Years 7 and 8 students took part in the Junior Mathematical Challenge, a 60-minute paper that tests problem-solving and logic skills.

More than 100,000 students from schools across the UK and internationally returned scripts for the Challenge with the top 50% of candidates receiving certificates. The top 8% were awarded a gold certificate, the next 17% silver and the next 25% bronze.

Forty St George's students were successful in achieving certificates, including Thomas T (best in school), Frederick DF, Alex H, Dominic H, Xinxin L, Anna V, Giulio Z and Marcus A, who received gold certificates. Marta A, Eleonore C, William H, Sofia LZ, Caleb M, Idan R, Rafael W, Gabriele B, Enayah C, Andres G, Santi LO, Jaime R, Ido S, Emese V and Francisco VG achieved  silver certificates. Arsen A, Gabriel B, Silvia C, Mauro G, D'Arcy H, Edward H, Pavlos K, Matteo M, Sofia P, Thithawat S, Oliwia W, Matthew B, Tsipora D, Daniel DDF, Alex G, Michelle K and Guia L received bronze certificates.

Competitions such as these can result in invitations to the Mathematical Olympiads and we hope students enjoy the challenge of these as much as we enjoy running them. Students looking for more practice on the UKMT challenges can find them on Dr Frost, or speak to our Junior Maths Club lead teacher, Mr Regueira.
