St George's Team Titanium has won the Royal Society of Chemistry Belgium's Top of the Bench (TOTB) competition, retaining the Keith Price Cup for the third year in a row, while Team Chlorine, also from St George's, claimed second place.
Team Titanium, consisting of Year 9 students Alessandro FP and Elena W, Year 10 student Alexandros K and Year 11 student Michelle W, competed against 12 other teams from seven international and European schools to claim the honour of representing RSC Belgium at the TOTB grand final in spring 2022.
Team Chlorine included Thomas B and Abhipoorna S in Year 9, Carolina L, Year 10, and Jake T, Year 11.
The international eliminator was held remotely during late November and early December and included a written test component for individual team members and a practical group exercise.
The written element was a 30-minute online chemistry quiz with questions tailored to the three age groups in each team, while the practical element required input from all four team members based around a simple 'Everyday Chemistry Around You' scenario that could be carried out at school or at home depending on Covid restrictions at the time.
RSC Belgium made special mention of St George's Alessandro FP who achieved the best overall result in Year 9 and Alexandros K who achieved the best overall result in Year 10. Congratulations!
