Success for Year 6 in local football tournament
St George's Primary football team participated in the local Il Piccolo Mondo tournament on Sunday, 23rd June, and we couldn't have been prouder and more excited. Despite being relatively inexperienced and having had limited opportunities to play together as a cohesive unit, the team was brimming with enthusiasm and a positive spirit.
Tournament recap: A journey to the finals
Our team was placed in Group B, the Europa League for under 11s. They kicked off their campaign with a fantastic 3-1 victory against FC Luxembourg City 2 in their first group match, with Lorenzo scoring a hat trick. In their second match, they fought hard but were narrowly defeated 1-2 by UN Kaerjung 97, with Lorenzo finding the net once again.
The third match saw Charles stepping up, scoring twice to secure a 2-2 draw against USAG Uckange. The final group match was against Yellow Boys Weiler la Tour, which was lost 1-3, with Charles once again providing the goal for St George's. This result propelled St George's into the play-offs against Uckange FC. The team rose to the occasion, winning 2-0 with goals from Lea and Manraj. This impressive performance earned St George's a spot in the finals of the Europa League, where they faced Monsdorf.
In the final match, St George's played with great determination and heart. Despite their efforts, they were defeated 0-3 in a hard-fought battle that went down to the very end. The team's journey to the finals demonstrated their resilience, teamwork and sportsmanship, making us all extremely proud.
Congratulations to the team for their outstanding performance and for representing our school with such spirit!
