Book Week raises €995 for Gambia partnership

  • Primary News

The recent Book Week dress-up day and secondhand book sale in Primary raised an incredible €995, which will be used to support the Gambia Partnership Collective.

For the past two years St George’s Primary has worked with Batokunku Lower Basic School in the Gambia exploring climate change. The Gambia is one of the world’s top climate leaders. According to research compiled by Climate Action Tracker (Cat), the Gambia is the only country where official government action, alongside its internationally supported targets, are compatible with keeping global average temperature rises below 1.5C since the pre-industrial era.

Together students from both schools are learning about key sustainability issues and the action they can take to support the climate.

As part of the Gambia Partnership Collective, St George’s has raised money to support the school and community, providing resources for Batokunku school and garden, and helping to build a maternity clinic for local women. The school has already helped many students in the area and continues to raise funds to support the Gambia Partnership Collective.
