Assembly highlights inspirational women

  • Primary News

Year 2 students held a moving assembly to celebrate International Women's Day on 8th March.

The class shared their research on women who have made a positive impact in today's world, presenting role models such as Wangari Maathai, a Kenyan social, environmental and political activist, who was the first African woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize.

Other women featured in the assembly included Katherine Johnson, ‘The Human Computer’, who was famous for her work at NASA using maths to help launch the first American into space and get the first man on the moon in 1969.

St George's Primary Head Teacher Ms Nuttall also featured as an activist in education, running the Luxembourgish branch of the global movement ‘WomenEd’, which connects female leaders in education and gives them a voice.

The students were inspired by the forward thinking and motivation of these women and we are sure the future thinking will continue.
