ECO News Update

This term staff and students have continued to work together despite the challenges of social distancing. The eco-council primary students wrote and rehearsed a fantastic short film on recycling, re-introducing our old friend Wall-E. Unfortunately, filming had to be pushed back to the spring term but we are looking forward to this blockbuster release in 2021!

Secondary students from MoE, supported EWWR in November against all odds… through remote working and mocks! Despite the challenges, the students digitally shared some wonderful EWWR information posters, created new recycling posters (see below) and have a pen collection competition ready to launch in the spring term, along with the new bin posters.

Reception Orange students helped grow biodiversity with the build of St George’s second insect hotel. Whilst, students from year 5 researched sustainability as part of “Me and my planet” discussing what planetary resources we need and what can be changed.

The Primary Art department successfully trialled and approved Tesa eco-glue sticks made from recycled plastic (greener and cheaper!). These are available through Viking and have been recommended to staff to procure instead of Pritt stick, to help reduce the plastic waste. Meanwhile, the IT department has continued to develop print reporting to help find ways to reduce the paper footprint of the school.

Unfortunately, the first eco-committee had to be postponed to the spring term, owing to covid-restrictions. Nonetheless, this has not dampened the green spirit staff and students who have tirelessly continued to support St George’s eco-school programme.

A HUGE green thank YOU, to everyone!

As 2020 draws to a close, we send you Christmas greetings from “St G Tree for 2020” a Cacao seedling planted in the Cameroon on behalf of St George’s eco-team, to help support local economies and absorb carbon emissions.

Please have a very happy restful holiday and fantastic start to 2021
